The iPhone Share Sheet Is the Fastest Way to Summarize Video. Here Is How to Set It Up.

Most people summarize videos the slow way: copy the link, switch apps, paste, wait. There is a faster route that has been built into iOS for years and almost nobody uses.

What the share sheet actually is

It is the panel that appears when you tap Share. AirDrop is there, Messages is there, and any app that registers a share extension can be there too. A share extension is not a shortcut that opens the app. It runs the app in a small panel on top of what you are watching, and hands it the video directly.

No clipboard, no app switch, no losing your place in the feed.

Setting it up (the step everyone misses)

iOS hides share extensions until you enable them, which is why most people never discover this.

  1. Tap Share on any video
  2. Scroll the row of app icons all the way right
  3. Tap More
  4. Tap Edit
  5. Switch the app on and drag it near the top

If it is still missing, open the app once from your home screen. iOS does not register the extension until the app has run at least once.

Using it

Tap Share, tap the app, read the summary. That is it, and it works identically in YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, because it is a system feature rather than something each platform has to support.

Which apps support it

Not many. Most summarizers are built around a paste box because it is easier to ship. SenseIT and Gist AI both lead with the share sheet. If you watch content in languages you do not read, check whether the app translates as well as summarizes, since those are separate jobs and most tools only do the first.

Limits worth knowing

No speech means no summary, so music only clips are out. Private videos usually fail. Long videos take longer than short ones. Noisy audio produces a worse transcript and therefore a worse summary.
